The DVD and case was in fine condition but the product was advertised to include stickers. There were NO stickers. My child was dissapointed but otherwise, pleased to own the movie. Cute dinosaur movie. It still had its “scary” scenes with the “bad guy”, but not as scary as other movies made out there, geared toward the same age level. Loved hearing Carol Burnett’s voice as one of the dino characters. Loved her in Horton Hears a Who, too. Bad girl in both cartoon movies!

When I want to just relax and enjoy the afternoon, this is at the top of my list, and the movie was inexcellent condition, including the outside case ! ThankYou !!!

I had the pleasure of seeing this film at its premiere in Salt Lake City, Utah. What a delightful film. It is based on a true story, and is beautifully written. The husband & wife team of Michael & Janeen Damian, did a superb job of writing, producing and directing this magical film. The cast is excellent from darling young actress Kay Panabaker, to veteran TV actors Don Johnson, James Best, & Lori Loughlin. It is a very heartwarming story (I cried 3 times), but is also filled with beautiful cinematography. In my opinion this film should have had a nationwide theatre release. Don’t miss adding this excellent family film to your library. It is for all ages from children to senior citizens.

I got to see this movie during its premiere weekend in Salt Lake City. At first I didn’t think I would like it since I’m not really into the traditional “horse” movie. Much to my surprise the wonderfully-written story deals much more with the relationships of the characters in the story. I thought the performances by Kay Panabaker, Don Johnson and Lori Laughlin were fantastic, believable and relevant. The best thing is that it is a movie that the entire family will enjoy, including the parents!!!

Another note: I agree with past reviewers on the photography, it is fantastically done. I also think the soundtrack is brilliant, featuring some wonderful vocalists doing some great songs.

It’s easy to see why some people would claim this was Queen at their peak. This is a very solid concert, very high energy, and very Queen.

Of course, there are flaws in the actual video, due to the date of the concert and the lack of huge budgets for live videos at the time. These shouldn’t be a problem for your enjoyment, however, unless you really dig picture perfect presentation. Queen was more about the show anyway, and the sounds are pretty top notch. The visual performance is every bit as good, even if the video doesn’t always capture a picture perfect reflection of it.

My only real issue is that Brian’s vocals appeared to be heavily buried in the mix. I know that Brian has never had the presence of Freddie or even Roger, but his vocals should be a little more obvious. This could, however, be a flaw in the actual recording of the concert, and doesn’t ruin the disc at all.

Otherwise, Freddie Mercury is on the entire night. Queen’s presentation is simply excellent. This is, perhaps the only chance to catch “Hot Space” tracks in full versions on video (Action this day, Staying Power, Backchat). While the hot Space album is considered by many fans to be the low point of Queen’s career, it’s part of the Queen experience (And I am personally a fan of Staying Power and Backchat). Hearing “Hero” from Flash Gordon live is also a solid option.

The high points of this show are many, but include: We Will rock You (Fast), Somebody to Love, Now I’m Here, Dragon Attack (on of my favorites), Back Chat, Get Down, Make Love (The visual presentation in the bridge of this song is amazing), Fat Bottomed Girls, and Tie Your Mother down.

In total, this video does capture Queen in a strong light, whether this is at their “peak” or not. Highly recommended to Queen fans, or just fans of a good live show.

This is an interesting and informative film about the history of the Louvre; but it’s much more an ode to the building itself than to the treasures contained within.

This award-winning film was made by American Lucy Jarvis and represents the first time anyone was ever allowed to film inside the Louvre. Charles Boyer narrates in English, and tells an engaging story of the Louvre’s journey from Fortress to Palace to Museum–and its unique place in the history and heart of Paris. The building changed physically at the hand of each of its regal denizens, and the art collection was purchased, gifted, stolen and scavenged throughout the course of centuries. The narration is illustrated with portraits of key historical figures, as well as drawings, paintings and prints of historical events surrounding the Louvre through the ages. Some of the nicest film footage is of the deserted galleries at night, captured when the crew got locked in the Museum one evening.

Because this DVD was released in August 2005, I assumed it was a brand new program. In fact, THE LOUVRE was filmed in 1977, and, unfortunately, shows its age. I’ve been spoiled by the sharp, clean, bright, digital quality which makes fine art DVDs such a pleasure to view. Even older titles seem to have been “cleaned up” for their digital debuts in order to take full advantage of the new medium. Sadly, no such restoration appears to have taken place with this title (at least to my untrained eye). The interior scenes have a yellowish cast to them that distorts the colors of the paintings, and infuses THE LOUVRE with a fuzzy, dated feel. In addition, much of the footage is slightly “jumpy,” which I found very distracting. One good thing about the film’s age is that we get to see some works by Manet, Degas, Cezanne, Van Gogh and others which were moved from the Louvre long ago and are now housed in the Musee d’Orsay.

The DVD “extras” aren’t even worth mentioning.

I don’t want to come across as too terribly negative. This is still a “must have” for serious art geeks like myself–I just want people to understand what this DVD is, and what it is not. It IS a lovingly-made account of the fascinating history of one of Paris’ oldest and most famous buildings; it is NOT a retrospective of the vast art collection housed within its walls. Yes, many paintings and sculptures do appear throughout the film, but they do not often appear to their best advantage. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I learned about the Louvre’s rich history, but disappointed by the secondary role assigned to art history and appreciation.

Let’s just say this upfront, it has nothing to do with the Da Vinci Code so forget about that. It’s an NBC News documentary from the ’70s, shot on film with professional lighting and voicever by Charles Boyer, mainly about the long and complicated history of the building. It’s very, very well done, with high production values – not like a Rick Steves or Samantha Brown traveldoc (not that there’s anything wrong with those).

As others have noted, the film stock has not aged as well as one might like, and while the audio is very good, the visual is perhaps a 3.5-4 out of 5. Also, there’s a little bit of staging every so often with spectators. The most effective bit is a running feature where a costumed arm adds to and rearranges the wings and corridors of the Louvre to show how it changed over time (and it changed a lot). Boyer has a good script to work with and does a professional job of narration.

It’s only an hour long so it catches your attention, gives you useful info, and then you’re done. It deals with the Mona Lisa only as one of thousands of works of art, so don’t buy this hoping for a documentary on that subject. What it is, is a very professional overview of the joint. Good for people who are planning to go and want to take a peek, and those who have been and want to remember. This is a good gift for an older Francophile.

Our kids love this cartoon and seeing it once every Christmas on television is not enough. I had an old vhs copy that was grainy (getting old and flickering). It was time to just get the DVD to have on hand. Now our 5-year-old wants to see it anytime of year, but both she and our 8-year-old will enjoy it every Christmas, certainly more than once. It’s a part of our Christmas movie collection.

I have all the volumes of Family Guy and being stationed overseas means this is the best way to watch shows. I recently decided to watch every episode of Family Guy from Season 1 episode 1 to now. It’s kind of depressing to see how much the show has gone down hill. The first 3 seasons were hilarious, and from there it was just funny. Now, practically every episode has a stupid song and dance that’s basically used as filler. Conway Twitty was nice random FG stuff the first time, but 3 times so far and i wanna punch Seth MacFarlane. I did laugh while watching this season, but i only watched it once over. Once. What i don’t understand is that this volume and volume 6 were both 3 discs and on the 3rd disc is lackluster special features and 1 (ONE) episode…

you know what Family Guy team, don’t release a volume 8 or 9, because it’s just gonna be half of season and a piece of another. Instead, when you release a DVD set, realease 1 (ONE) full season.

Fox continues its practice of releasing 13 episodes for what they used to charge for a full (~24 episodes) volume. It’s just not worth it until it goes on discount for around $20.

But more importantly, the content of the show has suffered a serious decline in quality. There are far fewer laugh out loud moments, fewer genuinely funny episodes, and fewer plots that are even worth animating. There are several episodes that didn’t make me laugh once (and that has never happened in any previous season). I hope this is just a hiccup and not a trend, but I’m losing faith.

In short, it’s too much money for too few episodes of declining quality.

Outlaw Star started playing on Toonami back about five or six years ago. I was just getting started then as an anime collector, and dismissed it as a DBZ, Yu-Gi-Oh, or even a Pokemon type thing. Unfortunately, I judged it without watching it to any degree. It played often, so I could hear those annoying voices in my head. I’d always seem to catch a few minutes, while I surfed the channel. The Jim Hawking to Gene Starwind dialog, it seemed a lot like a Robin to Batman type of talk, and grated on my nerves. The only thing that hit home then, “as possibly original”, was some talk I overheard about caster shells. Bullets that varied greatly in degree of power, even though they were all fired from the same size handgun.

Over the years since then, I’ve collected as much of the best quality anime titles, subbed or dubbed that I could afford. Now I’ve nearly gotten to the point where I must wait for new series to be packaged, so I revisit some of the past ones, just to see if I missed any. I came across a good rating on “Outlaw Star”, so I tried a few more sites, and found that sentiment to be consistent. What did I miss? Unfortunately, Outlaw Star has long been off Toonami or Adult Swim, and I’d have to buy the series to check it out further. Fortunately, its dirt-cheap compared to many 26 episode series for sale.

Ok, so what’s the verdict? Well as you can tell from my rating, I messed up badly by originally passing over this series! The collection of characters drive a story where, like the “Heroes Journey” in literature, give them life-changing purpose. Gene grows from a slovenly bum to a substantial man. Along the way, he overcomes his space travel phobia, and the haunting events of the past that caused it. Each of the other characters finds, and overcome personal challenges, that stretch them to their very limits. One thing that aids this, and affects the viewer is that we have no nice, nice type of PC anime. Characters are injured, some die, ships are destroyed, and space is a portrayed as a very dangerous place in which to travel! Not just because of Kai Pirates, but asteroids, black holes, and other dangers.

Another good plot device to help make it real for me was the cost of space travel. Maintaining, repairing, and outfitting a ship is not something you can do with pocket change. Many have compared this to Cowboy Bebop. This is probably because they both involve a group of diverse characters that have a similar mix of communication. While it shared some elements of reality in its vision of a future. The goals, plot and motivations were completely different. Still OS stands out on its own merits.

If you’re gonna try to rent this first, try the episode: Cats and Girls and Spaceships (#20). It has an excellent blend of humor, irony, and human feelings, all of which transcend a mere anime plot. Another good one is Hot Springs Planet Tenrei (#22), a funny, fan service episode that still had some important plot elements, and it should not have been left off the Toonami showings. It’s actually the only episode I remember which explains caster shells.

I don’t really remember enough about the Toonami showings to confirm this, but I don’t know if they left in the narrative prolog for each episode. Voiced by the guy that does Jet in the Bebop series (I think), his voice over gives an important intro to each episode. Its especially effective for character introduction, often explaining the motivations of the new characters that would otherwise take several episodes to figure out. The high quality box set includes six DVD’s, two each to a DVD case. Packaging tends to be better than most of the full series boxes I’ve run across, especially at these low prices!

Toonami, Adult Swim… Got so many great memories of Anime from both, actually, I bought ‘em. Lol. And this Anime, Outlaw Star, has become my 2nd favorite Anime. Yeah… About 3 or more years back, I caught this on Toonami, and their Midnight Run. I really liked it, so, after more than a year, I finally got around to buying it, and man, it was even better uncut, and from then on out, I loved it! And jeez… On Toonami, they so HEAVILY edited this Series, it wasn’t even funny… Even to the point of cutting one whole episode out of the Series. That episode held quite a bit of meaning for the Outlaw Star Series, and was definitely one of the best, and funniest episodes throughout the Series. And all I have to say to all those Anime lovers, Otakus, and such… Just buy it as fast as you can. This Anime is only 2nd to Bebop. My age rating for it is: 15+ (Graphic Violence, Profanity, Nudity, and Sexual Situations). Beyond superb.

This is a very moving film about the clash of two radically different cultures. The young Jesuit priest, Father LaForgue, although very rigid in his belief system, sincerely wants to help the Native Americans by bringing them the Truth. But his message of paradise has no meaning for the Alogonquins, Hurons, and other tribes that he comes into contact with. They cannot understand why he has no woman. They fear him as a demon because he reads from books and makes strange signs (of the cross). He, in turn, believes they are living in darkness and must be saved. He is fearful of the vast forests where the devil reigns. There is a great deal of complexity in the character of Chomina, the Algonquin leader who fears the Black Robe but who feels honor bound to assist him. Father LaForgue is a tragic figure, so lonely and confused in the vast expanses of ‘New France’. Why is he here, so far from his mother’s comfortable drawing rooms? What does he hope to accomplish? The film is beautifully shot on location. A warning to the faint-hearted: there are some gruesome scenes in the film. Black Robe is a moving, balanced film with a profound spirituality.

An outstanding look at what happens when cultures collide. “Black Robe” tells the story of a 17th century French Jesuit missionary sent to the Canadian wilds to proselytize among the Huron Indians. Unfolding artfully and slowly, the film explores both the questionning of and committment to his faith encountered by the priest as he gets to know his Indian guides, their culture, and their spiritual beliefs. In the film, the priest’s character is juxtaposed to his young apprentice who falls in love with the daughter of their Algonquin guide and comes to a deep understanding and appreciation of their culture. Far from romanticizing and idealizing it’s Native American characters, however, “Black Robe” presents them fully as rich, varied, multi-faceted individuals capable of pettiness, wisdom, loyalty, kindness, atrocity, humor, close-mindedness, and love. Likewise, the priest retains his committment to Roman Catholicism and his confusion over Native American spiritual beliefs, while coming to a profound love and respect for the individuals and the tribes he has come to serve. It is a truly remarkable film, magnificently photographed, with rich, memorable characters. It speaks clearly about the conflicting values and world views held by these two cultures without denegrating or idealizing either one. There is violence and sexual situations — similar to what you might expect in “Braveheart.” A great film!

One of the funniest parodies of a rock band ever, and likely the very first “mockumentary”, THE RUTLES: ALL YOU NEED IS CASH is a brilliant send-up chronicling the events of the “prefab four”. This 70-minute “semi-feature” film conceived by ex-Python Eric Idle who plays the Paul McCartney-esque character Dirk McQuickly was produced by Lorne Michaels of SNL and includes various cameos from the classic SNL cast (Bill Murray, John Belushi, Dan Ackroyd, Gilda Radner) as well as cameos from Mick Jagger, Ron Wood, Paul Simon, ex-Python Michael Palin and even George Harrison himself as an interviewer! Neil Innes (who plays the John Lennon character Ron Nasty — quite brilliantly I might add) also contributes some of the greatest Beatles song parodies imaginable — they are both hilarious and actually quite clever in that they still manage to stand on their own as original songs. Anyone who has seen the later real documentary, THE COMPLEAT BEATLES (or even the ANTHOLOGY), will have to see this to believe it — the major events of The Beatles twisted around and reapplied to The Rutles! The mock performances will have Beatles fans howling with laughter. For example, a flawless recreation of The Beatles’ goofy, surreal “I am the Walrus” performance from the MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR film becomes “Piggy in the Middle”, and the “Cheese and Onions” clip exactly imitates the animation from YELLOW SUBMARINE, except now it’s YELLOW SUBMARINE SANDWICH! Oh and don’t forget the hilarious album covers and their titles: OUCH!, SGT. RUTTER’S ONLY DARTS CLUB BAND, TRAGICAL HISTORY TOUR, LET IT ROT.

Now finally available on DVD, the extras include a brief intro by Eric Idle’s narrator character some 23 years later … well not really 23 years if you watch it a year or two from now (you’ll get what I mean!), as well as audio commentary and text memoirs from Eric Idle, and a photo gallery.

In 1978 it was easy to remember Beatlemania, and this sendup of the mass hysteria was spot-on and hilarious. Starting as a skit for Saturday Night Live, and popular enough to get built into a feature-length film, this Eric Idle project is layered with jokes, spoofs, terrific songs, and great cameos by George Harrison, Mick Jagger, Paul Simon and Idle’s wife, and it is still very funny 25 years later.

DVD extras are quite good. Eric Idle’s commentary is excellent — informative and entertaining. There are also 4 deleted scenes that last about 18 minutes; a photo gallery with 29 pictures; a “Play Songs Only” option, where you ee only the film’s songs (Goose Step Mama, Number One, Between Us, With a Girl Like You, Hold My Hand, I Must Be in Love, Living in Hope, and Ouch!).

The look and sensibility of the film are exactly right, the writing is VERY funny, and the songs are surprisingly Beatle-like and quite listenable. If you are a Beatles or Monty Python fan, or if you just love good comedy, you will probably get a real kick out of this.

Rush Hour II starring Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan is sort of a mixed bag. Partially a martial arts movie, but also, a comedy. This time they are in Hong Kong mixing it up with a Bad Guy. I know it sounds weird ,but it works. A laugh a minute, as they say. Packed with action.

Recommended for fans of Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan.

Summed up, I’d say Rush Hour 2 is just as good, if not better, than the original Rush Hour. The movie, like most Jackie Chan flicks, contains the same GREAT ACTION, GREAT STUNTS and GREAT LAUGHS that you’ve come to expect from Jackie flicks. This one does not disappoint.

Much like the original Rush Hour, Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan continue that awesome chemistry they have that made the original such a HUGE hit. This time though the tables are slightly reversed as the flick picks up in Hong Kong (right where the original ended when they took their vacation) with Tucker being the fish out of water doing cultural and language faux paux in Hong Kong. The movie actually continues some of the storyline threads of the original referring back to Jackie’s (Inspector Lee’s) deceased father. The basic premise of the storyline has Jackie and Tucker (along with the U.S. Secret Service) tracking down a counterfeit dollar bill ring throughout Hong Kong and the U.S. all the way to Vegas (where else). Tons of laughs and loads of action are left in the wake of their trail.

Highlights: Loads of laughs as Chris Tucker tries to speak Chinese and sing karaoke. Tons of AWESOME fight scenes (in particular the massage parlor scene). Tons of HILARIOUS (albeit perhaps politically incorrect) repartee with Chris Tucker. Our heroes streaking through the streets of Hong Kong. Tons of beautiful women.

Things to Beware of: Chris Tucker’s mouth. While his tirades are often hilarious, some (like Roger Ebert) may find some the movies dialogue inappropriate (racist).

The End of Movie Bloopers: Of course being a Jackie Chan film, one of the distinct highlights of his movies are the end of movie bloopers. There are several goods ones in here, particularly a cell phone call and the big hint at the next Rush Hour flick (as was set-up in the closing scene of the movie).

Overall, it you are into Jackie Chan or Chris Tucker or Action Comedies or the first Rush Hour, you KNOW you’ll be seeing this one. You won’t be disappointed.
